ENFORCEMENT SURVEY

Earlier
this year, a survey request was sent out to each IACE
member community. The survey asked to provide information
on the current codes being enforced in each town and to
provide some additional information on significant amendments
to the property maintenance code. The survey also asked
for any other local ordinances that might be of interest
to the association. Finally, the survey asked to provide
suggestions on future training topics and any current
issues each community might be facing that other member
cities may be able to provide assistance or guidance on.
We got a response from 28 communities. Enclosed is a summary
of those responses.
The
summary is divided into three sections. In the first section,
a chart is provided for each community with the codes
that have been adopted. This section may be useful if
your community is considering a code update. There are
several good reasons to keep your codes up to date. If
your community is currently using a code that is more
than 5 years old, you should consider an upgrade.
The
second section is a list of the local amendments each
community has made to their property maintenance code.
No town can adopt a national standard without making some
local amendments to meet specific issues that impact that
town. Some of these amendments may be useful to other
member communities who are facing the same problems. This
section also includes a list of local ordinances provided
by the respondents. Again, some of these local ordinances
may be useful to other member communities.
The
third section provides a list of suggested future training
topics. The Board of Directors will be using this list
to help guide future discussions on what training the
association would like to see. If you have any other suggestions,
please contact a board member. This section also lists
a few issues or problems some of our member communities
are struggling with. If you see any issues here that your
community has dealt with successfully, please contact
that community and share your ideas.
This
survey was done in an attempt to provide information,
help and guidance to all members of our association. In
order for IACE to continue being as vital as it has been,
it is important for us all to share our ideas and concerns
with each other. If you have any questions or can help
with any of the issues you see in this survey, please
contact the person listed for that community.
