
CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
Job Notice
The Village of Carpentersville, Community Development Department, is seeking a full-time Code Enforcement Officer. This position requires a person of integrity, responsibility, and knowledge to conduct property maintenance and rental inspections, investigate housing and property maintenance complaints, issue notices of violations, follow through on enforcement actions, and work with property owners to obtain code compliance.
This position requires knowledge of property maintenance, code enforcement, construction, and inspection principles. Must have knowledge of minimum standards for existing heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical systems and structures. Requires the ability to explain code requirements and building repair methods and materials to property owners, identify code violations, solve problems, improve the appearance of neighborhoods, and be firm and professional when working with residents. Also requires the ability to follow verbal and written directions, interpret and apply village code requirements, be a self-starter, follow through on enforcement actions, prepare reports, and communicate with all members of the public, both verbally and in writing.
Minimum qualifications for this position are possession of a valid IL driver’s license, HS diploma or equivalent, two years of post high school education and two years of direct work experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. All applicants must be an ICC- certified Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector, or have the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
Starting salary range is $21.89 – $23.55 per hour, DOQ. Evening and weekend hours are required.
